When Little Joe the Krampus Met
Poem by K. A. Laity
Book design & illustrations by The joey Zone
$4 (includes US postage)
Two eyes, like a jack-o-lantern's red,
Scorched the dark to find his bed.
And the Krampus laughed so low and deep,
That Joe considered feigning sleep...
While little celebrated in the United States, the Krampus is known across
Europe as the impish figure who accompanies Saint Nicholas on his
annual visit. The Krampus reprimands disobedient children with
switches and spankings, while Nicholas rewards the good with gifts.
However, this infernal servant's intimidating appearance - bright red,
horned, carrying chains and a wicker basket with which he carts off the
bad children for punishment - fails to impress bad boy Joe.
In this delightful poem, we find that naughty boys can prove difficult to
discipline, even for the cloven-hoofed Master of the Bad.
The Willimantic Frogs
Story by K. A. Laity
Artwork & design by Gene Kannenberg, Jr.
$3 (includes US postage)
Better be friendly when the frogs come 'round;
Say "how d'ye do?" or they'll swallow you down.
Residents of Willimantic, Connecticut take great pride in the giant frog
statues perched upon spools on the bridge to downtown -- statues honoring the
legendary amphibians who grace the official town seal. But many
have wondered if there's more to that legend than just an 18th-century
yarn about a great frog battle. Was the frog a totem of the indigenous
tribes? A conspiracy of the town selectmen? And what about that great
frog battle?
This original folk tale reveals the "truth" behind The Willimantic Frogs,
an account which
The Willimantic Chronicle has called "highly
imaginative." In it, one native Nutmegger encounters the reality behind the
legends, discovering an ancient secret lurking in the primordial
mud below the bridge...
